  • Camera, Arica, Chile

    Hi

A girl called A.... has found my Camera where I left it. (Buzzin!).
But I will have to get it back from Switzerland in September.

Thanks for the info on Iquique, it was very interesting especially the "War of the Pacific" fought in Iquique harbour in 1879. The Navel base is still there, we found a smart long street with wooden buildings built in the 1890´s that reminded me of Bourbon Street in New Orleans. We only stayed there 1 day, we arrived in darkness so we didn´t see the wonderfull view of the beach city as you climb out of it. We are now in "Arica" the most northern city in Chile and are going to "Nascar" tomorrow.

    Cheers for now xxx.

  • Iquique Feb 10th

Ahh, half term on the horizon, a well desereved rest for you.

Dads birthday, I´ll try and phone again today but I don´t know what day it is, I think it's Saturday.

We are in Iquique, a city on the beach in Chile we travelled overnight and got here this morning. I´ve got a good tan because its been sunny for the last week. San Pedro, the last place we stayed in last is right on the edge on the driest desert in the world, and to get there we had to travel for 2 days across the desert in a 4x4 jeep with a couple from Canada and 2 Swiss blondes in their 20´s, bummer. Ha, Ha.... what a positive experience.

We have got into a routine, I´m a more relaxed and organised
traveller now and my mate and I are getting on quiet well. Although I got very miffed about losing my camera and MP3, both my fault but I am not going to let it spoil things, I may even replace them because we are going looking round an electronics market place soon which are rare on our travells.
I´ll have to check on the money situation.

Well I better sign off for now, hope you are all allright....

    Check out wiki here.
Iquique (IPA /i'kike/) is a city in northern Chile, capital of Tarapacá Region, on the Pacific coast, just west of the Atacama Desert. It is located at 20°13′S 70°10′W and has a population of 221,400 (2004). The city's name comes from the Aymara word "Ique-ique", which translates to "laziness", but can also mean "sleep" or "bed."

Iquique has one of the largest commercial port centers (or Zona Franca) of South America and has been traditionally called Zofri. There are around 2.4 km² of warehouses, banking branches, and restaurants.300px-Combate_naval

  • Potosi

In a large town called Potosi until tomorrow, today we have been down a working mine down small tunnels with hard hats and lamps on our heads.
It was dusty and hard to breath it was an experience but working there every day that must be hard, (not my career option). Afterwards back on top they let some dynamite off to inpress us. (It worked).
In 2 days this Saturday the locals have a celebration, drink too much and fights usually start so we·re moving on. (Its a local custom once a year).
Editor's note: Would staying for the "celebrations" remind you of Haslingden too much?!

Editor's note (ie yoinked off Wiki)Potosí is a city, the capital of the department of Potosí in Bolivia. It is at an altitude of 3967 meters and has about 115,000 inhabitants. It is claimed to be the highest city in the world. It lies beneath the Cerro de Potosí — sometimes referred to as the Cerro Rico ("rich mountain") — a mountain of silver ore, which has always dominated the city.

  • Got a bit behind with things...

    Hello
We moved on from Cusco to Puno where the reed people live on floating Islands.

We then travelled to Copacabana where there are some young Hippies that sit on the pavement all day selling woven
    bracelets and amber necklaces.

Then we got a coach to La Paz, Bolivia
which is the highest city in the world. (Very busy).

  • It was Thai 'Chicken and lemon grass' soup in an Italian restaurant

    ...
    that
    gave me the runs.
